Think of a situation in which the Triple Aim framework could help you adapt to changes in the delivery of patient care. 

How could you use the framework to reduce the per capita cost of healthcare in your own work environment to better align the needs of your organization with 21st century healthcare practice? 

Provide an example, either within your work environment or in society at large, of when an ethical or legal dilemma impacted your organization.

The Institute of Healthcare Improvement developed the Triple Aim Framework to optimize health system performance. It entails three dimensions which are:

. Improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction)

. Improving the health of the population

. Reducing the per capita capita cost of healthcare. (IhI.org, 2023).

The U.S. is said to have the most expensive healthcare system in the world, without change from the presidential administration and the other decision-makers it will only get worse.

I have witnessed gastroenterologists perform several procedures on patients that are not necessary, the patients and their loved ones agree to those procedures because they want the best for their loved ones. On one occasion I worked in the intraprocedural in the GI Suite. One of the patients who was scheduled to be scoped for a colonoscopy was scoped 2 days prior for GI bleed. No bleeding was found, however, the procedure is being repeated because one of the Fellows was absent during the initial scoping. The second colonoscopy was done under the disguise of “Taking a second look”. This second look should not be added to the patient’s bill since it was to satisfy the curiosity of the Fellow and his attending. 

According to IHI and the Triple Aim framework, healthcare reform can be strengthened, through accountable care Organizations (ACOs), bundled payments, and other financing approaches. (IhI.org, 2023).

Population health aims to improve the health of the population, including traditional health services, preventive care, and health promotion. (Kokko, 2022). It is important to find ways in which to decrease the per capita cost of healthcare. The Triple Aim framework is doing a phenomenal job but more needs to be done to improve the high cost of healthcare in the U.S.
